2003
birthed The Breathers. By way of Chico-cum-North Carolina,
Austin is where The Breathers finally came to rest. Since that
time 2 albums have been released, 2005's "Work and
Sleep" and 2007's "I'm Still Curious".
"Work and Sleep" is a noisy, brassy affair.
Well loved by more than several Austinites, critics and
various people around the world see it as The Breather's first
date to the world of pop. It was well recieved and hinted of
better things to come. The Austin Chronicle said the album
"Hit the mark right out of the chute". That means
it's damn good and urgent. Claire Hamilton was voted one of
the Chronicle's "Top 10 Women Who Rock" on the
strength of this debut alone.
The new record, "I'm Still Curious" was
recorded with an almost entirely new band in the spring of
2007. It was released on May 25th of this year. It has been
received with high praise for it's spacey, moody, ambient
instrumentation and vocals. Hook-laden and designed to speak
to your secret self, it can make you laugh or cry with ease.
Claire Hamilton's vocals are often described as Neko Case
soulful with Chrissie Hynde sway. It's hard to put a time
frame on The Breathers, but let's just say it's timeless
music. If you like anthemic and personal songwriting, 60's
soul and rock that is honest and imaginative, you'll like The
Breathers.
